Tommy Dahlen

Dahlen has over 20 years’ experience of transactions and advising technology and knowledge companies, educational establishments and industrial actors. He advises national and international businesses in a number of industrial fields on matters relating the protection and commercialisation of intellectual property (IP) rights, such as patents, trademarks, designs and trade secrets.

He also assists major business enterprises and research institutes to facilitate and execute R&D projects, and has considerable experience with contract models, project execution and external framework conditions for projects fully or partly financed from public funds, typically through financing programmes managed by the Research Council of Norway, Innovation Norway and the EU’s various framework programmes.

Dahlen has previously worked as a lecturer at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU)’s Department of Industrial Economics and Technology Management (IØT), where he was closely associated with the NTNU School of Entrepreneurship.

Dahlen has a strong understanding of business and technology, and is always up-to-date on the latest trends, methods and developments in key areas of technology, including the development and internationalisation of medical equipment, materials technology, software and electronics. He works closely with technical resources and project managements, and devotes time getting to know each client to ensure his advice is tailored to their organisational culture, operational needs and expectations.

Dahlen is a sought-after public speaker and regularly lectures at many of the largest technology conferences in Norway.

Dahlen leads our Privacy and Data Security team, and assists clients to analyse their compliance, establish procedures and guidelines, and conduct internal monitoring. He also provides practical follow-up of cases where privacy regulations and guidelines have been breached.

Dahlen has a great deal of experience of advising startups. He serves on the boards of several early-phase and growth-phase companies in a number of business sectors. Thanks to his wide-ranging experience and understanding of technology, he is able to quickly familiarise himself with his clients’ core business activities and is an excellent sparring partner in the companies’ onward development.

Dahlen assists with the procurement and development of ICT solutions, and with various issues relating to the administration, operation and maintenance of business-critical ICT systems.

Cartesian successfully raises capital

We are proud to have assisted Cartesian as legal advisers in this successful funding round. Cartesian, a provider of modular and cost-effective energy storage systems managed to raise NOK 23 million, in addition to NOK 8 million in R&D funds from Norges Forskningsråd and Innovation Norway.

Sennheiser invests in Norwegian scale-up sensiBel

Today, sensiBel, a Norwegian scale-up, announced a significant milestone with the successful closure of their EUR 7 million funding round. The investment was led by Sennheiser, a global leader in professional audio, along with participation from existing shareholders including TRUMPF Venture, Skagerak Capital, Investinor, SINTEF Venture, MP Pensjon, and Halden Kommunale Pensjonskasse. We are proud to have acted as legal advisers to SensiBel throughout this transaction.

Arntzen de Besche assists European energy giant E.ON in agreeing strategic cooperation with Horisont Energi

European energy giant E. ON announced on Wednesday that they have entered into a strategic cooperation agreement with Norwegian listed company Horisont Energi, a clean energy company with plans to transform gas into ammonia and hydrogen and to offer CO2 transportation and storage. E.ON will as part of this cooperation acquire a 25% stake in Horisont Energi. Arntzen de Besche is assisting E.ON as legal advisor in the transaction.
