Jørgen Birkeland is part of the Construction department.
He has extensive experience with contract law in general, and construction law in particular, and assists builders, contractors and engineers in all phases of construction projects. This includes preparation of contracts, contract negotiations, follow-up on ongoing projects, final account and deficiency management. Birkeland is regularly in court with cases within his subject areas.
As Head of Legal at Standards Norway, he has been responsible for the development of new and revised standard contracts within construction in Norway. Birkeland was project manager for the development of the standard contracts for execution contracts (NS 8405 and NS 8406), design and build contracts (NS 8407), sub-contracts (NS 8415, NS 8416 and NS 8417), design work and consultancy (NS 8401 and NS 8402), as well as NS 8404 and NS 8430. He was also the project manager for the development of the standard contracts based on the Housing Construction Act and the Craftmen's Services Act.
Birkeland has worked in the Norwegian Labour Inspection Authority, where he was the leader for the working group that prepared the current Construction Client Regulations. He therefore has special expertise regarding HSE in construction. With his work experience from Standard Norway and the Norwegian Labour Inspection Authority, he is used to cooperate with other professional groups and is able to quickly become aquainted with technical matters.
Over the last 15 years, Birkeland has given more than 100 lectures on various topics regarding construction law and on Construction Client Regulations and HSE. He is an experienced speaker who receives very good feedback on his lectures. Birkeland is the co-author of the two legal books "Comments on NS 8401 and NS 8402" and "The Housing Construction Act – Agreed Documents with comments".
