Nine new partners in Arntzen de Besche

We strengthen our teams within M&A and Capital Markets, Dispute Resolution and Litigation, Fisheries and Aquaculture, Competition law, Tax law, labour law, compliance and investigations. Arntzen de Besche now has 58 partners.

In addition, we build up a new business area within Fisheries and Aquaculture, where we get many new customers. We look forward to take promote three partners from our own firm within Competition law, Tax law, Labour law, Compliance and Investigations. A strong team, will be even stronger, says Steen. 

Fisheries and aquaculture 

Bjørn Sørgård is a specialist within aquaculture and fisheries conditions and has extensive experience as a consultant in business law and public law issues to commercial players and sector organisations within the fisheries and aquaculture industries. In addition, Sørgård has extensive experience of negotiations and implementation of offshore projects, and from major disputes in the oil and the offshore industry. Sørgård has previously worked in the Ministry of Fisheries, Norwegian Maritime Authority; the law firm Simonsen Vogt Wiig and as a partner at the law firm Kyllingstad Kleveland. He was in the 2015 and 2016 rated on 2nd place in the field of fisheries and aquaculture in the Norwegian Financial Daily’s annual lawyer survey. 

Ida Espolin Johnson has extensive experience with advice to the fisheries and aquaculture sector in various corporate issues, including transactions, corporate law, etc. and also disputes. Johnson has special knowledge of the financial services industry and has also operational experience as Director in one of Norway's largest pension providers. She has several duties within the financial services industry. Johnson has previous experience as a partner at the law firm Kyllingstad Kleveland, partner and managing partner at the law firm Steenstrup Stordrange, Executive Vice President and legal director of KLP and as an associate at the law firm BA-HR. 

M&A and capital markets 

Marianne Sahl Sveen specializes in capital markets transactions, securities law and M&A, with a particular focus on public and international cross-border transactions. Sahl Sveen has extensive experience with IPOs and other capital market transactions within various sectors ranging from shipping, seafood, E&P, technology, finance and real estate, and has advised in a number of the larger capital market transactions in the Norwegian market in recent years. Sahl Sveen has previous experience from the law firm Wikborg Rein. 

Lars Horgen Hinze has extensive experience in assisting financial advisors, investment funds, as well as other financial and industrial players with acquisitions, mergers, other equity transactions, investments and restructurings. In addition, Hinze has extensive experience within asset management and private equity and assists investment firms and other investment groups regarding issues related to the the establishment of funds, organization of the administration, incentive programs, on-going investment activities and exit processes. Hinze has 13 years of experience from the law firm Wikborg Rein. 

Dispute resolution and litigation 

Knud Jacob Knudsen is admitted to the Supreme Court of Norway and assists mainly within dispute resolution and has led a large number of cases before for the District Court, Appeals’ Court and the Supreme Court, as well as before Arbitration courts. The better part of the matters have concerned contract law, employment law, corporate law and construction law, in addition to professional liability. Knudsen is a member of the Civil Procedure Group at the Lawyers Education Center, and is a regular lecturer on civil procedure. Knudsen comes from the position as partner and Head of the Litigation Department at the law firm DLA Piper, and has previous experience as clerk at the Supreme Court of Norway, as lawyer in Mageli and legal assistant at the Advocate General. 

Andreas Nordby has extensive experience in the crossing between procedure and counselling to particularly industries such as technology/telecom/IT, pharmaceuticals/biotechnology, food, media/entertainment/film production, as well as trade. Nordby also has broad experience from on-going counselling and drafting of contracts within the intellectual property law and IT law. Nordby has eight years of experience from the law firm Thommessen, and experience from the Ministry of Justice and from the council solicitor of Oslo. 

Competition law 

Thea Susanne Skaug has more than 15 years of experience within competition law and has previously worked as Legal Director in the Norwegian Competition Authority. Skaug has also been leader of the secretariat of the Norwegian Competition Law Reform Commission, and have been a member of two Law Committees regarding the competitive conditions in the Norwegian grocery store market. Skaug assists particularly in connection with acquisitions, mergers, the creation of the joint ventures, anti-competitive collaboration, abuse of dominant position and in the design of compliance programs. Skaug is also working with marketing and advertising law and public procurement. Skaug has worked in Arntzen de Besche since 2005. 


Eyvind Sandvik has a long experience within the ordinary corporate taxation, international tax law and corporate law. Sandvik assists customers in general counselling, transactions and restructuring, as well as assistance to Norwegian and foreign companies in disputes with the tax authorities. In addition to the Norwegian Bar Exam, Sandvik has also obtained the New York Bar Exam. Sandvik has experience from PwC in Oslo and the United States, as well as the Tax Law Department at the Ministry of Finance. Sandvik has worked in Arntzen de Besche since 2012. 

Labour law, compliance and investigations

Monica Furustøl primarily provides legal assistance within the fields of labour law, investigations, inquiries and compliance. She especially assists in counselling to organizations and employees in connection to inspection and control from public authorities, among others in connection to industrial accidents. Furustøl has a comprehensive legal background with broad experience from dispute resolution and litigation, both as a former public prosecutor and as a deputy judge. She also has international experience from work as a Registrar for the United Nations Housing and Property Claims Commission in Kosovo, and she has for several years been a lecturer at the University of Stavanger, lecturing subjects like health law and international human rights. Monica started in Arntzen de Besche in 2014. 

In addition to nine new partners, we are very pleased to welcome six associates as well as Business Development Manager.
