Building one of Norway’s leading environments within banking and finance

So far in 2019, Arntzen de Besche has recruited two new partners within banking and finance: Karl Rosén – one of Norway’s leading lawyers within financial regulation and FinTech, and Vidar Løhre – one of Norway’s leading lawyers within financing of oil and energy activities.

– Through the recruitment of Rosén and Løhre we are, in our perception, well on our way to becoming one of Norway’s leading banking and finance departments, states department head Trond Kildal. Rosén consolidates our skills within financial regulation, an ever more complex area where we note increased demand from the market. Arntzen de Besche has for many years been among Norway’s strongest law firms towards the oil industry, and the recruitment of Løhre, who has been involved in a large number of financing transactions within oil and energy in recent years, strengthens our profile in this market.

The department for banking, finance and insolvency currently consists of 14 lawyers working with all types of financing, restructuring and insolvency matters, with a particular focus on assignments within oil, shipping and offshore, renewable energy, aviation, real estate, trade and technology.

Lately we have seen a significant number of bond loans that are either on the market or will be on the market before the summer, and there are currently many oil and offshore companies that take the opportunity to join the capital markets.

– We note increased demand from oil and offshore companies, both within bond loans and ordinary bank loans, states Vidar Løhre.

There is a high rate of innovation and business development in the finance sector and we are seeing a great demand for services that combine technological, commercial and regulatory expertise in seamless deliveries with a high level of client service and integration. Within FinTech we note increased cooperation between banks, other financial institutions and other parties, as well as high activity on the transaction side, among other trends.

– In essence, what is required is risk detection and management, and developing the best solutions together with our clients. We aim to be at the forefront, and Arntzen de Besche has in recent years actively developed the platform that can see to this. I look forward to becoming a part of this, and to bringing my resources to the table, says Karl Rosén.

The corporate environment at Arntzen de Besche, which includes M&A, capital markets and financing, among other areas, has in recent years grown with 7 new partners, several of whom have come from law firms Thommessen, Wikborg Rein and Schjødt.

– The strengthening of M&A and capital markets has been a priority to us, says Managing Partner Håvard Sandnes. In 2018, Arntzen de Besche was nominated by MergerMarket for the award “Norway M&A Legal Advisor of the Year”, as one out of four firms, which shows that the strengthening has yielded results. Our people within banking, finance and insolvency have for several years been involved in some of the largest, most complex financing assignments in Norway, and we are now adding leading expertise within financial regulation, which further consolidates our position.
