Seminar - East Africa Oil and Gas - Opportunities for the supply industry

On 17 April 2018, Arntzen de Besche, in collaboration with IHS Markit and NABA, hosted a seminar at which participants were provided with legal, economic and political insights and an industry briefing related to the oil and gas sectors in Tanzania and Mozambique, with particular reference to liquefied natural gas (LNG).

Tanzania and Mozambique plan to develop some of the world’s biggest gas discoveries of recent years. This should create market opportunities for Norwegian suppliers, many of whom have cutting edge technology for developing and converting deep water gas discoveries into LNG.

The speakers - Are Lysnes Brautaset (Statoil), Dr. Chris Suckling (IHS Markit), and Ole Kirkvaag and Karl Erik Navestad (both Arntzen de Besche) - elaborated on how Norwegian companies can position themselves in the race for current and upcoming opportunities in the two countries. Also, speakers identified some of the challenges and a sobering reminder that such developments take time to materialise.

Arntzen de Besche has carried out several assignments assisting and advising authorities in East Africa. We have advised Tanzanian authorities and we are currently engaged to advise the Mozambican authorities with a number of current strategic and commercial questions relating to management and regulation of the upstream oil and gas sector.
